One and a Half Feet on the Ground: a website, a blog, a creative outlet and yep, most definitely me – down-to-earth and in possession of a great dollop of common sense; but with a huge passion for exploring the wondrous magic, possibilities and potential of life.

In the past, I have constantly struggled with these two sides of myself – the practical versus the creative sides. It seemed as if I always had to choose to one way or the other – money versus passion or business versus art. It all came to a head at the beginning of this year, when you could say I was having a bit of an identity crisis.

I used to write for organisations for a living, and much of my identity was based around being a writer who was lucky enough to be paid for her gift. Writing was a part of me, and still is in many ways. As Joan Didion once said, “I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.”

However, somewhere along the way, I lost my drive and passion for writing in a professional sense, and this loss was absolutely devastating. I didn’t know what or who I was! This, among other health issues, was how my identity crisis came about – Who am I? What do I want to do? What CAN I do? How do I support myself financially and yet still be true to myself?

That was until I simply decided that, “I’m not going to have both feet on the ground OR my head in the clouds. I’m going to be ME! Down-to-earth with my country, farming roots – practical and making sure I pay my bills on time; but also open to new ideas and still reaching up into the clouds to where my dreams, passion and creativity live!” So that’s how the concept for One and a Half Feet on the Ground came about…and when I decided to “come out” as a tarot reader.

Yes, I read tarot cards and no, I don’t wear a long starry cape and tell you scary things! To me, tarot cards tell a story – each card has an individual meaning, and then a number of these cards/meanings will combine in a particular order to tell me the story of the questioner – like chapters in a book. Tarot card readings can also tell our story with a different perspective, and make us look at things that perhaps we haven’t seen before. But of course our life stories are still being written, so like the opinion of a good friend – you listen to the reading, you consider, and then make up your own mind as to your future course of action.

It was through reading tarot, my need to write, and my fascination in talking to others about their life experiences that I realised that I am not only a “sometimes blogger” and “former professional writer”, but in fact an insightful and compassionate storyteller.

I gather and interpret real, lived stories – both my own and others – through tarot reading and writing about my own experiences. By sharing these stories with you through One and a Half Feet on the Ground, I find meaning and purpose in my life, and hopefully give you the gifts of insight, inspiration, empowerment and connection.
