Artist Residency, Gippsland

What is on offer?

Come and Play – All of May; Celebrating the arts of Gippsland

Creative Gippsland, as part of Come and Play All of May 2017, is offering 5 paid Artist in Residence opportunities across Gippsland during May 2017.

The Creative Gippsland team would like to partner an artist with a town in each Shire: East Gippsland, Wellington, Latrobe, South Gippsland, Baw Baw and Bass Coast. The artist could be a visual artist, performing artist, writer / story teller, poet, dancer etc. There are five vacancies and one Artist in Residence in progress in Traralgon in Latrobe City.

This is an opportunity for an artist to spend 7 days in a beautiful, small town and create a piece of work in response to the environment and community. For the host communities this is an opportunity to spend time with an artist with new ideas and ways of looking at their world. They will learn skills and / or acquire a deeper knowledge of a particular art form or artistic practice. In a way this residency could be akin to planting a seed in the town.
The intention behind these residencies is to develop new cultural networks, share skills and inspiration, and encourage collaboration between different people and communities. Both the artists and the community need to be willing to engage with each other in an open minded and generous manner.
