Currency screening at the WAG

10 November 2017 @ 10:00 am - 3 December 2017 @ 3:00 pm

Currency is a new screendance by Kim Sargent-Wishart, made in collaboration with a group of local Warrnambool dancers spanning 6 decades in age, from teens to sixties. It explores questions of ageing and visibility in girls and women, and represents ageing as ambiguous and slippery, as movement along a current or continuum of time. Challenging fixed ideas of ‘old’ and ‘young,’ it also considers issues of ageing and cultural currency, the desire to be visible or to disappear, and the experience of our physical bodies as simultaneously architecturally formal and illusory.

With dancer/collaborators Jennifer Chambers, Emma Charlton, Melissa Dance, Ella Dunn, Aisha Gladman, Karen Hermon, Keela Moloney-Smith, Shari Nye, and Anna Schlooz.

Filmed by Emily Bissland. Directed and edited by Kim Sargent-Wishart.

Original score by Jarrah Wishart.

Screening at the Warrnambool Art Gallery through December 3, 2017.
