Cantori formed in 2009 with the goal of providing South West Victoria with a group that showcases choral music from a range of eras and styles in high quality performances. Director Jeanette Hajncl leads this band of capable and enthusiastic vocalists who are equally at home singing Renaissance polyphony and giving premieresof 21st Century music that has been composed for them. Cantori is now established as one of the region’s principal vocal ensembles.

“Anyone who has a chance to hear these fine musicians should not miss the opportunity.” Helen Lyth, 2009.

Although primarily an a capella group, Cantori has enjoyed collaborating in performance with instrumentalists from jazz, classical and popular genres as well as appearing with the local Warrnambool Symphony Orchestra.

“Cantori, under Jeanette Hajncl’s most able direction had perfect balance, pitch and blend.” Helen Lyth, 2013.

The group’s focus on making music of any style accessible to their audience is one of the keys to their popularity. Their performances typically journey through the centuries and include examples of religious and secular art music, popular, folk, and even children’s songs – all given context and cohesion through thoughtful, entertaining – and occasionally surprising – introductions.

“… very impressive and artistically controlled …” Adrian Wintle, 2014

Cantori has brought their music to many locations around South West Victoria including performances at local festivals and events, and they have sung live for ABC radio. Their first album will be released in 2014.

“… beautifully refined choral style …” Bronislaw Sozanski, 2013

Cantori specialises in performing a cappella vocal repertoire from the Renaissance to contemporary works written for the group.
