Kim Sargent-Wishart

I am a movement and visual artist, researcher, writer and educator based in Warrnambool. My current screendance and photography practice grew out of a love of pedestrian dance and everyday ‘found’ beauty. I am influenced by my studies in contemporary dance and choreography, Body-Mind Centering somatics, Tibetan Buddhism, and Miksang contemplative photography. I am interested in how perspective changes perception and how we make meaning of what we perceive. I teach workshops in somatics, contemplative photography, experiential anatomy and dance improvisation and lead professional development in embodied leadership and creative arts practices.

I have a BA with Honors in Dance from Wesleyan University (Connecticut, USA) and a PhD in Performance Studies from Victoria University (Melbourne, Australia). I am a certified practitioner of Body-Mind Centering®and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator (ISMETA). I have taught Pilates and other forms of movement education since the early 1990s (in San Francisco, Melbourne and Warrnambool), and before that trained as a bodyworker in Connecticut. For over 20 years I have been a student of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, mainly through Shambhala International in the Bay Area and Melbourne, and at the Vajrayana Foundation in the Santa Cruz mountains.
