Jane particularly enjoys working with textiles, first knitting then weaving. Then Jane discovered felting about 20 years ago, back then it was something she did one week a year when she left the family, farm and her job as a midwife. When Jane left paid work a number of lucky coincidences happened, the Certificate 3 Visual Arts Textile SW TAFE, Lavers Hill with Sue Ferrari was about to start, an exciting prospect. Earlier Jane had started studying at the College of Textiles, Pascoe vale, but life got in the way and the family moved to Marlborough. The other lucky coincidence was she was offered a place in a working studio with 3 other textile artists in Cororooke.
Currently Jane is having fun exploring 3D felted objects with various surface designs.
Jane’s present body of work- Microbes Within – she has explored a range of techneques using microbes as her inspiration. Microbes are found everywhere, they are within us and outside us, on the ground we walk and the air we breath. They are necessary for our very survival, but they can happily exist without us.
