Dianna Heeps

I was greatly inspired by the words from the director of the Warrnambool Art Gallery, John Cunningham. In judging the event he said my art “jumped off the wall”. Winning the Koroit Art Show in 2013 was the catalyst for me to think I may have something to offer.

My work is usually mixed media. I incorporate interesting papers that remind me of things I love: unique textures, antiques and Persian rugs. Sometimes I also use coloured pencils, markers and bits and pieces I have collected on beach walks. I paint on board mainly because it gives me a very rigid surface to work on, as well as an instant frame. I like my work to stand alone in its rawness without the distraction of an added frame. I paint abstract realism from experiences and impressions, or create works of sheer whimsy.

I am beginning to explore wire sculpture incorporating scraps of material and random objects found in the natural world. The sculptures are formed with wire and plastic supermarket bags. I find the up-cycling aspect of this process very appealing.

My work is on display and available for sale @ MUDgallery, Hamilton. I can also be contacted for private viewings and sales. Fine art prints (giclee) are available at very reasonable prices. Enquiries welcome.

Sometimes whimsy, sometimes abstract realism, I may use collage, acrylic paints, coloured pencils, bits and pieces of man-made or natural objects in my compositions.
